Born in Ascoli Satriano (Province of Foggia, Apulia) in 1946 , Michele Placido is an international renown actor, director and writer. Placido is one of the main protagonist of the Italian motion picture industry. He played many masterpieces, working with masters like Visconti, Bellocchio, Monicelli, Taviani, Lizzani, Rosi and many others. He directed moviesrewriting Italian motion picture industry history, starting with “Un eroeborghese” (Ordinary Hero) and “Romanzo Criminale” (Crime Novel), just to mention his main two movies. Moreover, afterthe Italian National Dramatic Arts Academy and histheater debut with Luca Ronconi, Placidohas been recognized on the world stage not only as one of the main Italian theater lead, but also as one of the most important contemporary directors. Indeed, a general manager who needs no introduction.

Placido is one of the greatest artists that Apulia region, and the whole Italy, can be proud of.

Upon entering, the words of Strehler saying that a theater is like a churchcame to my mind. Well, I want the Umberto Giordano Theatre to become as a lay church, a place to be a meeting and moral, social and civil datum point for the entire city. My intention is to let it return a place where the local community can meditate, express themselves, work and share experiences and professional opportunities. Teatro Pubblico Pugliese (Apulian Public Theatre Agency) Chairman

Since 1979, Apulian Public Theatre Agency promotes theater, dance, children’s theater and music culture all over Apulian region. The agency is a promotional and educational body recognized both by the Italian Cultural Heritage and Activities Ministry and by the Apulia Regional Government, that includes 52 regional municipalities and province public administrations. The current agency Chairman is Carmelo Grassi.
