"SoundZero Gege Telesforo 5tet" next Saturday, 16th of May at the Teatro Comunale "U. Giordano "of Foggia, his city, the chance of an evening not to be missed with the daring vocal performance of the musician from Foggia.
A major event organized by the Culture and Entertainment department of the City of Foggia, in the beautiful setting of the Jordan recently refurbished.
A concert with a new band, a new repertoire, a new concept: SoundZero Live on stage; Telesforo (vocal), will be joined by Alfonso Deidda (sax-Flaute-keys-vocals), Seby Burgio (piano keys), "Brother" Joseph Bass (doublebass) and Dario Panza (drums).
The show, conceived by his way of making music, represents an unpredictable cascade of energy "because with Gege you know where it starts but you never know how it will end," according to Max Ionata, one of the greatest saxophonists of the Italian contemporary jazz scene.
The Italian king of scat style – a form of jazz singing based on vocal improvisation - and amongst the most respected specialists in the world of jazz singing without words, Gege Telesforo is currently going through a particularly happy period of his thirty-year career, accompanied by great success and many major awards.
The victory of winning the Jazzit Award for five consecutive years, starting in 2010, as best male voice, indeed crowns an important period marked by the release of "Nu Joy" (Columbia / Sony / Groove Master Edition), countless concerts, the prestigious participation of his quintet in the exhibition "The Best of Italian Jazz in Shanghai" on the occasion of the Universal Expo, to represent Italian art and culture in the world, along with Stefano Bollani, Danilo Rea, Paolo Fresu, Roberto Gatto and others .
Lover of black music, multi-instrumentalist, composer, but also a record producer, conductor and entertainer of broadcasting, the likeable and talented Gege Telesforo doesn't need any introduction: a versatile artist and above all a refined vocalist, innovator of "scat" tecnique, capable of stand upto the giants of jazz such as Jon Hendricks, Dizzy Gillespie, Ben Sidra, Mike Mainieri, Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Bob Berg.
As a teacher, he regularly holds his"Master Class" for singing and vocal improvisation - "Vocal Jazz Concept" - in prestigious music schools, conservatories and Jazz Festivals in Italy and abroad; from September 2012 he has been teaching Jazz Vocal Improvisation at the Venice Voice Academy in Los Angeles, California (USA).
Born in Foggia in 1961 (with origins with which he maintains a strong link), another pupil of Foggia - the showman Renzo Arbore, star of the first explosion of Italian entertainment and music, who launched him on TV with "Those of the night" - Gege (short for three names: Eugenio Roberto Antonio) breathed music right from childhood, especially jazz, with whom he has a pervasive relationship, a relationship that has permeated his entire life.
From this fundamental core, amongst other things, his unique and personal way to sing is derived: Gege, in fact, "plays" with his voice, exposing rhythm rather than melody.
As a special musical personality, his artistic research has undergone a change since the second half of the 90s, heading more towards the side of aggressive and pure funk, where jazz and improvisational elements are welded to a rigorous conception dominated by rhythmic "groove ".
Currently the vocalist from Foggia hosts a very successful programme on Radio 24: "Sound Check".
