"This is how Naples Sang": Mario Salvatore in concert at the Teatro Comunale "U. Giordano "of Foggia on the 12th of May; an event in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Entertainment of the city of Foggia.
Sensitive and refined interpreters of "Southern soul songs" - as the subtitle of the event suggests - the singer from Foggia, son of Neapolitan parents, resurfaces the tracks of a classic Neapolitan repertoire through one of the most typical forms of great and timeless Neapolitan traditions: that of the so-called "Posteggia".
The gentlemen, as we recall, were street musicians who, before the birth of the modern mass media, spread their songs, playing and singing in the streets and meeting places, using tools typical of Neapolitan melody: guitar, mandolin and flute .
The show is a journey into the deepest southern culture, in its most authentic melodies, in its truest identity, retracing more than a century of history of classic Neapolitan song.
An artistic event of significant cultural importance, aimed at spreading and deepening this experience, that it has played a huge part also in the spread of Italian culture throughout the world.
Mario Salvatore is considered by critics as one of the most authentic interpreters of the Neapolitan music scene, as witnessed by his success and the approval noted both in Italy and abroad, where he has always experienced a strong audience participation.
The name and activities of the singer, among others, were included in the "New Encyclopedia of Napoletanata Song", by Pietro Gargano.
The interpreter, Mario Salvatore, whose warm vocal nuances, refined arrangements and philological narrative with which he presents his songs, involves the audience.
The repertoire for the concert programme in the "Jordan" includes songs arising from genuine folk tradition, such as "colascionate" and the tarantella, to then move on to the 800's, the advent of the Piedigrotta festival and the birth of publishing music, the meeting of representative characters of song writing, such as Salvatore Di Giacomo - assisted by Pasquale Mario Costa and Francesco Paolo Tosti - and other extraordinary characters of popular song, including Salvatore Gambardella.
And again, the audience can listen to serenades composed by the most prolific authors of the genre, such as Vincenzo Russo and Eduardo Di Capua.
Finally, the huge international success of the '900's, when Naples was consecrated as the capital of music and singing of southern culture thanks to the genius of now legendary authors with names such as Libero Bovio, Ernesto Murolo, Gaetano Lama, EA Mario (King Midas of Neapolitan song), Ernesto Tagliaferri, Evemero Nardella, Eduardo Nicolardi, until you arrive at the last great innovators: Renato Carosone, Domenico Modugno and Sergio Bruni.
